Overview
Most trekkers spend years doing Phulara Ridge, then Saru Tal, then a pass trek — as three separate trips. Fachu Kandi Pass gives you all three in one shot. Starting from Sankri — the same base village made famous by Kedarkantha — this trail takes you through a ridgeline walk with 270° Himalayan views, a serene glacial lake almost nobody talks about, and finally a high-altitude pass that connects the Supin Valley to the sacred Yamunotri Valley. It's a crossover trek in every sense: two valleys, three landscapes, and more highlights per day than most treks manage in a week.
At 4,356 metres (14,288 ft), the pass itself sits at a moderate altitude — comparable to Hampta or Sar Pass — but don't mistake accessible for easy. This is a physically demanding trail with long trekking days, remote campsites, and zero crowds. It's best suited for trekkers with at least one prior Himalayan trek under their belt. If you're the kind of person who hates doing the same thing twice, Fachu Kandi Pass was made for you.
Highlights
- Three Treks, One Route — Phulara Ridge, Saru Tal, and Fachu Kandi Pass all rolled into a single 8-day adventure. It's genuinely rare value for a Himalayan trek.
- Phulara Ridge — A Sky Walk — A high-altitude ridge walk with open views of Swargarohini, Bandarpunch, Kalanag, and Gangotri peaks on both sides. No tree cover, just you and the Himalayas.
- Saru Tal — The Lake Nobody Talks About — A pristine alpine lake at 4,150 m, surrounded by a natural ridge on one side and wildflowers in season. Quiet, beautiful, and almost always empty.
- A True Valley Crossover — You start in the Supin Valley and end in the Yamunotri Valley. The feeling of physically crossing from one world into another is hard to beat.
- Virgin Trails & Zero Crowds — Unlike Kedarkantha or Har Ki Dun, you'll rarely meet another trekking group on this route. This is still genuine off-the-beaten-path Himalayan territory.

Good to know
Fachu Kandi Pass Trek covers approximately 50 km over 8 days, starting and ending from Dehradun with the actual trail running from Sankri (1,920 m) to Hanuman Chatti via the pass at 4,356 m (14,288 ft). The route passes through Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Difficulty is rated moderate to difficult — more demanding than Kedarkantha or Phulara Ridge alone, but less technical than glacier-based routes. The challenge is cumulative: long trekking days, back-to-back high-altitude camps, and a steep pass crossing that requires good fitness and steady nerves. Trekkers with at least one prior Himalayan experience will find this very manageable if they're physically prepared. Complete first-timers should build up to it.
The best time to do Fachu Kandi Pass Trek is May–June and September–October. May and June are spectacular — the meadows are lush and green, wildflowers are blooming along Phulara Ridge and Pushtara Thatch, and the snow patches on the pass add drama without making the crossing dangerous. September and October bring post-monsoon clarity, cooler temperatures, and crisp blue skies that make the Himalayan panoramas from the ridge absolutely razor-sharp. Avoid July and August; monsoon rains make the trail slippery and increase the risk of landslides, especially on the approach roads. November sees the trail closing as snowfall becomes unpredictable and temperatures drop to sub-zero at camp.
What makes Fachu Kandi Pass genuinely stand out is the sheer variety packed into a single route — and the fact that almost nobody does it. On any given departure, you'll walk for days without seeing another trekking group. The trail takes you through a classic oak and rhododendron forest ascent, a high ridge walk with 360° Himalayan views, a sacred alpine lake in total solitude, and finally a crossover pass into a completely different valley. Most treks offer one of these things. This one offers all four, in sequence, across just 8 days. Add to that the option of tagging on a Kedarkantha summit from the same base (making it a 4-in-1 trail), and it becomes clear why this is one of the most underrated treks in the entire Garhwal Himalaya. If you've done Kedarkantha and want something longer, wilder, and far less crowded — Fachu Kandi Pass is exactly the next step.
